Biography and programme

Awarded in contests "Internacional Joaquín Rodrigo" (Madrid, 2004), "Primer Palau" (Barcelona, 2006), XLI Curso Internacional de "Música en Compostela" (Santiago, 1998), and Premio Extraordinario del Conservatorio de Ourense (Violín), Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera del Conservatorio Superior de Música de Barcelona and Graduated with "Matrícula de Honor" at "Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Graz" (Austria), Jose Manuel Alvarez Losada is one of the most outstanding Spanish violinists of his generation.
Born in Ourense, he studied with maestros such as Gaian Pogossova (Oviedo), Agustin Leon Ara (Barcelona) and Maighread McCrann (Vienna). He took courses in violin with Zakhar Bron, Igor Frolov, Lewis Kaplan, Donald Weilerstein and Antje Weithaas, in chamber music with Valentin Erben and Ferenc Rados and in orchestra with Andreas Rohn.
He has performed in major concert halls in Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Holland, Italy, Japan, UK, Dominican Republic and Switzerland, and in several festivals and seasons: Lucerne, Bozen, Salzburg, Mirarte (Bari), Camerata Salentina (Lecce), Deia, Puigpunyent and XXIII Ciclo de cámara y polifonía del Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid.
He was a member of the Orquesta de Cámara "Joaquín Rodrigo", the Menorca Chamber Orchestra, the "Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester" and the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia.
He has taught in different conservatories in Spain, including the "Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya". He is currently violin teacher in Mallorca, at the Conservatorio Superior de las Islas Baleares.


Andreu Riera was born in Manacor (Mallorca) and studied piano in Madrid, Vienna and finally in London with Professor Edith Vogel at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
He has many awards, such as the Concurso Internacional de Jaén (1991), "Bärenreiter" Mozart in Salzburg (1991), Fundación Guerrero (Madrid 1991) and Frederic Mompou (Barcelona, 1993).
He has performed all over Spain, Italy, Austria, France, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, England, the United States, Canada and Australia and has been invited to many music festivals, such as Palma, Torroella de Montgrí, Festival Contemporáneo in Tenerife, Granada, Opus Última Madrid, Alicante, Mozarteum in Salzburg, Grandes Maestros in Santander, Comunidad Europea in Venice, Bath (England) and Colorado Springs (USA).
As a soloist he has performed with several orchestras, including the Orquesta de Cámara Ciutat de Manacor, Simfónica de Balears "Ciutat de Palma", Sinfónica de Sevilla, Sinfónica de Málaga, JONDE, Kuopio Symphony, New American Chamber Orchestra, Colorado Springs Festival Orchestra and Montreal Chamber Players.
He is currently piano teacher in Mallorca, at the Conservatorio Superior de las Islas Baleares, as well as Artistic Director of the Festival de Música de Cámara de Cala Morlanda.
